  1. Compulsory Coverages in Massachusetts:
    • Bodily Injury to Others:
      • Protects you from legal liability if you accidentally injure or cause the death of someone else while operating your car.
      • Minimum coverage: $20,000 per person and $40,000 if more than one person is hurt.
    • Personal Injury Protection (PIP):
      • Covers medical expenses, lost wages, and replacement services.
      • Applies regardless of fault.
      • Limit: Up to $8,000.
    • Bodily Injury Caused by Uninsured Auto:
      • Protects against losses caused by an uninsured or unidentified (“hit and run”) driver.
      • Minimum coverage: $20,000 per person and $40,000 total for all people injured by the uninsured auto.
    • Damage to Someone Else’s Property (Property Damage):
      • Pays for damage to another person’s property caused by your car.
      • Minimum limit: $5,000.
  2. Optional Coverages:
    • While the mandatory coverages provide essential protection, many drivers choose to enhance their coverage with optional add-ons:
      • Higher Limits of Property Damage and Bodily Injury Coverage: To ensure adequate protection beyond the minimum requirements.
      • Collision and Comprehensive Coverage: For damage to your own vehicle due to accidents, theft, or other incidents.
      • Rental Reimbursement: Helps pay for a rental car while your car is being repaired.  Coverage begins when there is a covered claim on your vehicle.
      • Roadside Assistance:  Provides coverage for the following emergencies you hope never occur.. Towing Services, Jump-Starts, Flat Tire Assistance, Fuel Delivery(when you run out of gas), Lockout Services, and Minor Mechanical Repairs(broken belt, loose hose).
